This is the best show I have ever seen. Late 90's era Tucson was a special place. This show was it's culmination for me. I remember floating through the crowd easily, as everyone was moving and entranced. SCI was just reaching their peak with their finger on the pulse of the western free spirit lifestyle. Thanks.

What a great show , and incredible sound quality. Thank god it's a soundboard, I've seen a number of shows at the Rialto and it's an acoustical nightmare, to say the least. I'm sure it sounds better on disc than it sounded that night, in the house. The Rialto is a cool old theatre with alot of potential but it's a work in progress, about half way there. Great lines of site, and very intimate, however it sounds like a cave. If I could just hit the lottery I'd move back there and foot the bill to finish the restoration, that's how cool of a venue it actually is.
The Cheese was ripe for this show, the energy is oozing, flowing like a bed of molten lava. Turn it up, close your eyes...... and your there !

Land's End is a hell of aa way to start a show. Come as you are is fairly long, but part of the jam was a little dull for me. Drifting and GWHW were standard. Sand Dollar was really good, but nothing compared to all the Sand Dollar > Shine combos that were present in many 2/00 shows. Rhythm of the Road.. eh.
Set 2 is where it got real good. First that acoustic stuff, niiice. Then the Sing a New Song.. Billy seems louder on this recording, his guitar anyway. When they go back into Sing a New Song chorus it is more epic than usual, especially Kang's backing vocals. Kang is particularly talkative in this show, and always yodeling and stuff; this may be one of the few shows where his banter tops Billy's. The segue jam into Mouna Bowa gets nasty, and that Mouna Bowa is sick too. There isn't much variation among Mouna Bowas, but this one does have some extra cool stuff like Billy's guitar during/after the bass section. I like this Mouna more than the typical ones.
The Best Feeling > Restless Wind is very good, that's true. The Billy intro to Restless Wind is especially cool. But 2/19/00 has a similar and better Billy intro, and the Restless Wind itself, especially fiddle, make it the #1 Restless Wind, followed by that Daryl Anger one from 4/00, then maybe this one or the Radio City 2002 one or for some reason I am privy to 11/18/00's. Anyway, the Best Feeling > Restless Wind taken together is indeed a fine example of Cheese music.
This is a good start to one of their best tours. Still, you can tell through small glitches throughout that it is the start, and they haven't gotten it quite as together as they will in the coming weeks. Taken by itself it might be a 5 minute show, but relative to what's coming... I'm giving this show 4 stars.

To be free!
I didn't download this show off the archive, but my SBD copy of the show is a real nice recording. I bet this one sounds the same. This is one of my favorite Cheese shows out of the huge stack in my collection. It's a favorite of all my buddies, also. If you aren't motivated to download the whole show, please snag the Best Feeling> Restless Wind and check it out! SCI at their very, very best;-D
